Terms & Conditions
COBBLE & COT RENTAL TERMS & CONDITIONS
Last updated: October 2026
These Terms & Conditions apply to all equipment hired from Cobble & Cot. By placing a booking, the customer agrees to these Terms.
1. About Cobble & Cot
Cobble & Cot provides short-term baby and toddler equipment hire in Edinburgh and surrounding areas.
Our rental range may include prams and pushchairs, travel cots, child carriers, child car seats, booster seats and other family travel equipment.
Our inventory changes regularly as new products are added, replaced or removed.
2. Booking and payment
Bookings are subject to availability.
The customer is responsible for providing accurate booking information, including rental dates, delivery or collection details and appropriate contact information.
Full payment is required according to the payment terms displayed at checkout.
A booking is confirmed once payment has been successfully received and confirmation has been issued by Cobble & Cot.
3. Rental period
The rental period begins on the agreed collection or delivery date and ends on the agreed return or collection date.
Equipment must be available for return at the agreed time.
If a customer wishes to extend the rental period, they must contact Cobble & Cot before the original rental period ends. Extensions are subject to availability and additional charges.
Unauthorised late returns may result in additional rental charges where reasonably incurred.
4. Delivery and collection
Delivery and collection arrangements will be confirmed as part of the booking.
Customers are responsible for ensuring that someone is available to receive or return the equipment at the agreed place and time.
Where access is delayed, incorrect or unavailable, additional reasonable delivery or collection charges may apply.
Cobble & Cot is not responsible for delays caused by circumstances genuinely outside our reasonable control, although we will always make reasonable efforts to complete the agreed delivery or collection.
5. Condition of equipment
Cobble & Cot inspects and cleans equipment between rentals.
Customers should inspect the equipment when they receive it and notify us promptly if they believe an item is damaged, incomplete, unsafe or not as described.
Customers should not use equipment that they reasonably believe may be unsafe.
Nothing in these Terms affects the customer's statutory rights. Hired goods must still be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. GOV.UK
6. Customer responsibility during the rental
The customer is responsible for taking reasonable care of the equipment throughout the rental period.
Equipment must:
be used only for its intended purpose;
be used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions;
not be modified, altered or repaired by the customer;
not be used in a way that exceeds the manufacturer's stated age, weight or usage limits;
and be kept reasonably secure when not in use.
The customer must not lend, sub-hire or transfer the equipment to another person for commercial use without prior agreement from Cobble & Cot.
7. Loss, theft and damage
The customer is responsible for loss, theft or damage occurring during the rental period where this results from misuse, negligence, failure to take reasonable care, unauthorised use or failure to follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Normal wear and tear is not chargeable.
Where equipment is lost, stolen or damaged beyond normal wear and tear, Cobble & Cot may charge the reasonable cost of repair or replacement, taking into account the item's age, condition and the circumstances of the loss or damage.
We will not automatically charge the full original retail price where a lower repair or replacement cost is reasonable.
This is important because disproportionate charges or terms that are heavily weighted against the consumer can be considered unfair. GOV.UK
8. Customer insurance
Cobble & Cot's insurance may not cover loss, theft or accidental damage to equipment while it is in the customer's possession.
Customers are therefore encouraged to check whether their travel insurance, home insurance or another personal insurance policy provides cover for hired or rented items.
It is the customer's responsibility to arrange any personal insurance they consider appropriate.
Failure to obtain personal insurance does not remove the customer's responsibilities under these Terms.
9. Car seats and booster seats
Child car seats and booster seats must be used strictly in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
Customers are responsible for checking that the seat is suitable for:
the child's age, height and/or weight;
the vehicle in which it will be used;
and the intended seating position.
Unless expressly agreed otherwise, Cobble & Cot does not install child car seats into customers' vehicles.
The customer is responsible for fitting the seat correctly in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
Cobble & Cot does not represent itself as a professional car-seat fitting service.
Manufacturer instructions will be supplied or made available.
The customer must immediately stop using the seat and notify Cobble & Cot if:
the seat is involved in any road traffic accident or significant impact;
the seat is dropped or damaged;
any component appears damaged, missing or defective;
or there is any concern regarding the safety of the seat.
Any seat reported as having been involved in an accident or significant impact must not be used again unless Cobble & Cot confirms otherwise following appropriate assessment.
10. Prams, pushchairs and carriers
Customers must comply with all age, weight and usage limits specified by the manufacturer.
Children must be secured using the appropriate harnesses and restraints supplied with the equipment.
Customers are responsible for supervising children while equipment is in use.
Child carriers must be adjusted and used according to the manufacturer's instructions and suitability limits.
11. Travel cots
Travel cots must be assembled and used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
Only mattresses and accessories supplied or expressly approved for use with the particular cot should be used.
Customers must not add unsuitable mattresses, cushions, pillows or other items that could affect the safety of the product.
12. Cleaning
Equipment is cleaned between rentals using methods appropriate to the individual product and manufacturer's guidance.
Customers are expected to return equipment in a reasonably clean condition.
Reasonable use, including ordinary marks associated with normal family use, will not result in cleaning charges.
Where unusually extensive cleaning is required because of excessive soiling, staining or misuse, Cobble & Cot may charge a reasonable additional cleaning fee reflecting the actual work required.
13. Accidents, incidents and product concerns
Customers must notify Cobble & Cot as soon as reasonably possible of:
any accident involving the equipment;
any injury connected with its use;
any significant impact or damage;
any product defect or safety concern;
or any missing safety component.
Customers should stop using an item where continued use could reasonably create a safety risk.
14. Product recalls
If Cobble & Cot becomes aware of a manufacturer or regulatory safety recall affecting rented equipment, we may contact the customer and require the equipment to stop being used immediately.
Where appropriate, we will arrange replacement equipment or collection.
15. Cancellation and refunds
I would keep your cancellation policy separate if it already exists, but link it here:
Cancellations and refunds are governed by our Cancellation & Refund Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
Any cancellation charges must be reasonable and proportionate to the loss caused by the cancellation. Excessive automatic forfeiture of prepayments can be unfair under consumer law. GOV.UK
16. Our responsibility
Cobble & Cot is responsible for supplying equipment with reasonable care and skill and for ensuring that hired goods meet applicable legal requirements.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Legislation.gov.uk
We are not responsible for loss arising from:
incorrect installation or use contrary to manufacturer instructions;
use outside stated age, weight or suitability limits;
customer modification or unauthorised repair;
or other circumstances caused by the customer's misuse or negligence,
except where Cobble & Cot is legally responsible.
17. Events outside our reasonable control
We are not responsible for failure or delay caused by events genuinely outside our reasonable control, including severe weather, road closures, major transport disruption or similar events.
Where this happens, we will make reasonable efforts to minimise disruption and offer an appropriate alternative where possible.
18. Personal information
Personal information is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
19. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time.
The Terms that apply to a booking are the version made available to the customer at the time the booking is confirmed, unless a change is required by law or specifically agreed with the customer.
20. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in Scotland.
Customers retain any mandatory consumer rights available to them.
